The International Energy Agency predicts that the annual growth rate of renewable energy power generation in the Middle East will be about 14% from 2025 to 2027
According to the latest report "Electricity 2025" by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the UAE and the entire Middle East will increase their renewable energy generation by about 14% annually from 2025 to 2027, and their share will increase from 5% to 7%. The report pointed out that photovoltaic power generation will dominate the growth, and its share in renewable energy generation will increase from about 55% to nearly 70% by 2027. The average annual growth rate of photovoltaic power generation in the UAE from 2025 to 2027 is 23%, accounting for most of the growth of photovoltaic power generation in the region.
The report also pointed out that in 2024, driven by the UAE, nuclear power generation also played a more prominent role, with an average annual growth of 20%, which will continue to enhance the contribution of nuclear energy to a diversified and sustainable energy mix.
The report further noted that natural gas-fired power generation grew by 2.9% in 2024, making it the region’s most important source of electricity, and is expected to accelerate to an average annual growth rate of 5.3% during the 2025-2027 period as government policies further shift fuel from oil to natural gas, with the share of natural gas in the power mix rising from 68% to 73%.
