South Africa plans to build 1,164 kilometers of new energy transmission lines

Time : 2025-04-11 Hits : 0

In order to further improve the power distribution network and promote energy transformation, the South African Department of Electricity and Energy recently officially announced a major procurement plan - the construction of a 400kV new energy transmission line with a total length of 1,164 kilometers.

This project will cover the Northern Cape Province, the North West Province and the Gauteng Province. As a key component of South Africa's integrated resource plan and the 2024 transmission development plan, it shoulders the important mission of improving the transmission capacity of the power grid and optimizing the power supply strategy. Subsequently, South Africa will carry out procurement work from independent transmission service providers through a bidding process. After the project is completed, the South African National Transmission Company will be responsible for the operation and management of the transmission line in accordance with relevant agreements.

For a long time, South Africa has vigorously developed renewable energy, but the lagging transmission capacity of the power grid has seriously hindered the access of new energy projects. After the completion of this transmission line, it will not only effectively alleviate the bottleneck of power transmission and accelerate South Africa's transformation to a green and low-carbon energy structure, but also lay a solid and stable power foundation for South Africa's economic and social development, and help the country stride forward on the road of energy transformation.
